Mexican player receives 3-month suspension for terrible tackle

Dorados de Sinaloa defender Luis Ruiz was suspended for three months by the Mexican Football Federation (FMF) for causing a serious injury to Atlante player Christian Bermúdez.

Atlante's attacking midfielder suffered a double fracture in his lower right leg following Ruiz's violent tackle on Bermudez during a Mexican second division match between the teams on Sept. 13.

Ruiz, 22, will also have to serve a four-match ban for the red card shown after the challenge, meaning he will not play again until 2025.

Atlante reported the violent entry to the FMF disciplinary committee, which decided to sanction Ruiz after interviewing all parties and reviewing official medical reports.

Bermudez, 37, underwent surgery to repair a fractured fibula and tibia and no timetable has been given for his return to play.
