Negotiations between Feyenoord and Nottingham Forest for Mexican international Santiago Gimenez are currently underway, a source close to the talks confirms.
Although there is still much to discuss, the striker could see a move to the Premier League before the English transfer window closes on August 30.
Giménez joined the Eredivisie in July 2022 from Liga MX side Cruz Azul on a four-year contract and quickly made an impact. In his first season, the forward forced his way into the starting XI, scoring 23 goals in 45 appearances across all competitions.
He inspired Feyenoord to the league title during their inaugural season, prompting Giménez to earn his first call-up to the Mexican national team under then-coach Gerardo “Tata” Martino.
In total, the player has four goals in 30 appearances for Mexico and a staggering 53 goals in 89 games for Feyenoord.
If Gimenez completes the transfer, the fee would be split between Feyenoord and Cruz Azul after the Mexican side retained 30 percent of the player's fee should he leave.
“Until now [Cruz Azul has] “A 30 percent,” the player's father Santiago “Chaco” Giménez told ESPN in March 2023. “First he had 50, but then due to objectives met, passing Santiago from 10 goals was already 20 percent more.” [for Feyenoord] and until now Cruz Azul maintains 30 percent.”
According to Athletic, Forest are also interested in signing Arsenal star Eddie Nketiah, which would make a move for Gimenez redundant.
