Mexican Araujo is close to leaving Barcelona for Bournemouth, according to sources

US-born Mexican international Julian Araujo is close to a transfer from Barcelona to English Premier League side Bournemouth, a source has confirmed to ESPN.

The 22-year-old failed to secure a place in Barcelona's first team for next season and was told they would seek a transfer before the end of the summer transfer window.

Barcelona are willing to accept a €10 million (around $11 million) offer, including €7 million in fixed fees and €3 million in variable fees. The La Liga giants also want to secure a percentage of any future transfer of Araujo from Bournemouth.

A possible buyback clause could be included, which is not a priority at the moment.

The transfer of Araujo would provide a financial boost and a small relief on the path towards financial fair play for Barcelona.

Araujo is also reportedly on the radar of Sevilla – now managed by former Las Palmas coach Francisco Garcia Pimienta – although it is unlikely that they would be willing to pay the amount Barcelona are asking for. The relationship between the two clubs is also tense.

After being signed by Barcelona for €5 million ($5.46 million) from LA Galaxy in 2023, Araujo made 25 appearances on loan for Las Palmas last season.

The full-back returned to Barcelona to continue pre-season, getting minutes as a winger in a friendly against Manchester City, but remained on the bench under new coach Hansi Flick for the last two games against Real Madrid and AC Milan.
