Mets announcers perfectly sum up the team's massive struggles during the latest crisis: 'Oh my God'

The New York Mets are the definition of floundering right now, as they entered MLB's worst skid on Sunday with a 9-22 record in their last 31 games.

And once again, it was a late-inning collapse that led to the team's loss on Saturday afternoon. The team's announcers perfectly summed up how every Mets fan feels right now as they watched the San Francisco Giants win 7-2 in extra innings.

“It feels like the sky is falling,” Mets legend Keith Hernandez said on the PIX11 broadcast Saturday afternoon.

This came after Mets play-by-play announcer Gary Cohen called Mike Yastrzemski's bases-loaded triple that opened the game in the top of the 10th inning.

And the only reason the game had extras is because Edwin Diaz blew another save for the Mets. Diaz has blown four saves in his last eight appearances for New York.

After Hernandez made his comment, Cohen added, “I've felt this way pretty much every day for the last month.”

Hernandez responded, “My God.”

Another Mets legend, Ron Darling, also couldn't contain his thoughts about the team's losing streak.

“There's the losses and then there's what's going on here,” he said in the bottom half of the 10th inning. “And they are two different things. This is just heartbreaking.”

The Mets are now losers of five straight, which included another bad loss Friday night against the Giants, who rallied late to beat New York again. New York is nine games under .500 entering Sunday (21-30) and is in second-to-last place in the NL East.

New York is a talented team on paper, and while they weren't expected to be overly competitive this season after a lackluster 2023 campaign, this stretch has irritated everyone who follows the Queens-based team.

However, it's still very early in the season, and that's the good thing about a 162-game season: there are plenty of games left to right the ship. The Mets want it to come sooner rather than later.

Cohen's message to Mets fans before closing Saturday's broadcast was to remember that there is always another game on the schedule to get things on the right track.

“Remember, the sun will rise tomorrow, as hard as it may be to realize,” Cohen said.
