Over the past decade and a half, Kelly Stafford has learned all the ins and outs of what it takes to have a teammate who plays in the NFL.
Kelly, who is married to Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, has described herself as an “older football wife.” Her husband will soon begin his 16th season in the league, and now she’s offering some advice to her fellow NFL WAGs (wives and girlfriends), namely Brittany Mahomes and Taylor Swift.
Brittany is married to three-time Super Bowl champion Patrick Mahomes. Swift, the 14-time Grammy Award-winning pop sensation, was romantically linked to Mahomes' teammate Travis Kelce last season.

“I think they have their stuff pretty figured out and they know where they are in life,” Stafford told E! News. But she also cautioned that she may not be the best messenger, citing her past mistakes. “I've been wrong so many times,” but she's willing to speak some truths, Stafford added.

She did, however, offer some advice to her football wives and girlfriends. “One thing I wish someone had told me before I started is: 'Don't lose yourself,'” she shared.
“I would tell them, 'Don't try to become the person that everyone wants you to be,'” she continued. “Because that's what I did and I lost my identity. And that goes with personality, looks, everything.”
The Staffords married in 2015 and share four daughters.
Stafford added that it's important for wives and girlfriends to do their best to block out as much noise as possible.
“Everyone is going to tell you how you should look, what you should say and what you shouldn't say, all that stuff,” the Georgia native added. “And if you start listening, you're going to lose the values and everything that you have that makes you who you are and the person that your husband fell in love with.”
“You can't cancel out all the noise,” he admitted, “but try to listen to yourself before you listen to anyone else.”

Kelly co-hosts the podcast “The Morning After” with her friend Hank Winchester.
Matthew spent the first 12 years of his career with the Detroit Lions. While the podcast occasionally touches on football, Stafford and Winchester tackle a wide range of other topics, such as relationships with friendships and parenting. “I’m very vulnerable throughout this podcast,” Kelly explained, “because I feel safe in this community, which is why I love it.”
