Before treating everyone to a drink, he gifted them an on-field goal and assisted another in a 4-0 win over Darmstadt in Dortmund's final Bundesliga game of the season.

More than 81,000 fans attended the match, although not all of them were old enough to drink beer, but many will have taken advantage of the captain's offer, possibly more than once.

Dortmund did not show the final bill.

Reus, 34, leaves Dortmund after 12 years at the club. He scored with a spectacular free kick in the 38th minute after setting up Ian Maatsen for the first goal.

“You could hardly think better,” said Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl. “It would be a perfect farewell if we didn't want to crown him again in two weeks. So it was his last act here, but there is another one to come. We will take good feelings to Wembley.”

On June 1, Dortmund will face Real Madrid in the Champions League final at Wembley Stadium in London.

Reus said he wants to continue his career, although he did not say where.

“I want to continue playing because I feel good and believe in myself, but first I am focused on the Champions League final,” Reus said.

Reus won the German Cup with Dortmund in 2017 and 2021 after returning to his hometown club from Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2012. He was player of the year in 2012 and 2019. In total, he scored 170 goals in 428 games for Dortmund.

He scored 15 goals in 48 appearances for Germany, but missed important tournaments due to injuries.
