Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain are increasingly optimistic that a deal can be reached for midfielder Manuel Ugarte before the transfer deadline, sources have told ESPN.
United, according to a source, are hopeful a deal can be reached, whether it be an immediate transfer or an initial loan with the obligation or option to make the transfer permanent next summer.
The 23-year-old is keen on a move to Old Trafford and was left out of the squad for PSG's first Ligue 1 game of the season against Le Havre on Friday.
So far, United have refused to accept PSG's £50m ($60m) valuation of the Uruguay international. There is hope that PSG will have to lower their demands as the August 30 transfer deadline approaches.
The lines of communication between the two clubs have remained open throughout the summer and there is a desire on both sides to close the deal.
Sources have told ESPN that United are looking to secure more players from the squad to give them greater flexibility in negotiations for Ugarte.
The club have already raised around £60m from the departures of Mason Greenwood, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Donny van de Beek and Willy Kambwala. Facundo Pellistri and Hannibal Mejbri are also expected to leave.
United will also listen to offers for Victor Lindelof and Jadon Sancho, among others. Sancho has been linked with a move to PSG and, although the French club are looking for another striker, a source told ESPN that the English winger is lower on their list of priorities.
Meanwhile, Napoli remain interested in Scott McTominay, with the Scottish midfielder considering the Italian side as a viable option this summer should the two clubs reach an agreement on a price.
According to one source, United are not trying to force McTominay out but will listen to realistic offers. McTominay, who was named as a substitute in the opening game of the season against Fulham, is tempted by the prospect of regular playing time but has yet to make a firm decision on his future.
