Manchester City manager Guardiola is “tired”, next season could be his last

Pep Guardiola has hinted that next season could be his last as Manchester City manager.

Guardiola led his team to a record fourth consecutive English title with a 3-1 victory over West Ham at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

He has a contract until 2025 which he intends to fulfill, but the 53-year-old suggested he may not sign another new deal.

“The reality is that I am closer to leaving than staying,” Guardiola said.

“We have spoken with the club and my feeling is that I want to stay now. I will stay next season and during the season we will talk. But after eight or nine years, we will see.”

Guardiola has won 15 major trophies in eight years at City and could reach 16 with an FA Cup final against Manchester United next weekend.

The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach admitted he is “tired” and said he will need to find new “motivation” over the summer before starting the new season in August.

“I have a contract, I'm still here,” he said. “At some moments I'm a little tired, but at other times I love them and we're here winning games, looking good with the new players.

“I'm starting to think, 'No one has made four in a row, why don't we try it?' And now I feel like it's done, now what?

“Right now I don't know exactly what the motivation is for doing it because it's hard to find it when everything is done.”

If Guardiola fulfills his commitment to remain at City next season, he hopes Arsenal will fight for the title again.

Mikel Arteta's team has finished second in the last two campaigns after accumulating 89 points this season. Guardiola said he “got the message.”

“Before it was Liverpool who surpassed our limits, and now it was Arsenal,” Guardiola said.

“I want to congratulate you from the bottom of my heart, for Mikel, his staff and his players. They have had an incredible season. I feel it and they push us to give our best as before. We receive the message from Mikel and his players. We have to take the right decisions in the coming years because they are here to stay.
