Man United hire finance guru to help deliver PSR: source

Manchester United are seeking additional help to keep the club on the right side of football's financial regulations, a source has told ESPN.

United will hire a Head of Football Finance, who will be responsible for ensuring compliance with Profitability and Sustainability Standards (PSR).

The club was fined 300,000 euros ($326,000) by UEFA in July for a “minor breach” of the Financial Sustainability Regulations and continues to walk a tightrope regarding Premier League rules.

Sources have told ESPN that finances remain “tight” ahead of the summer transfer window.

United want to maximize their budget for new players, but also want to avoid breaking the rules.

United chief operating officer Collette Roche said in December that the points deductions awarded to Everton and Nottingham Forest show the rules “have real force”.

Everton have been deducted six points, while Forest have been deducted four points for breaching the Premier League PSR.

It's an issue that United's new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is well aware of, with the British billionaire interested in building a new stadium in Manchester to improve revenue streams.

“One of the new topics in football is the FFP [Financial Sustainability Regulations] where you have to live within your means, so the more means you have, the better you can live in some way,” Ratcliffe told the Cycling Club Podcast.

“The future of football will not be going to the game and then returning home.

“If you can get people to spend after the game then that's good for us, it's a win-win situation. The fans benefit and the club benefits because they can buy better players.”

United are hopeful of having Lisandro Martinez available for their trip to Brentford on March 30. Martínez has not appeared since he suffered a knee injury in the 3-0 win over West Ham on February 4, but joined the Argentine team during the match. international break.

United gave Martínez permission to make the trip to give him high-intensity training before his return but, according to a source, would prefer that he not participate in the games against El Salvador and Costa Rica.

Meanwhile, United have announced a pre-season friendly against Rangers in Edinburgh. They will face the Scottish team at Murrayfield on July 20 before traveling to the United States for a three-match tour.
