Man United fan group labels club 'laughing stock' and plans protest

A group of Manchester United fans branded the club a “laughing stock” and announced new plans to protest against the hierarchy.

The 1958 group had already organized demonstrations against those responsible for Old Trafford, particularly the majority owners, the Glazer family.

They have accused United officials, including minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, of “turning the club into a circus” and say they intend to protest before the Premier League match against Fulham on February 1.

Anger directed at British billionaire Ratcliffe has been growing since the 73-year-old took over in February 2024.

United fans displayed an anti-Ratcliffe banner at the away ground at Turf Moor during the 2-2 draw against Burnley on Wednesday, the first match since the sacking of head coach Ruben Amorim.

“After going from one disaster to another, Ratcliffe appears as an incompetent clown who turns the club into a circus,” the group 1958 said in a statement.

“Instead of being the best in our class, we are a laughing stock.

“These have been extraordinary and deeply worrying days at Manchester United.

“On the field, we are seeing mediocre performances from an average team that is drifting without identity, direction or ambition. Off it, the chaos is even worse.”

United are continuing their search for an interim manager to replace Amorim with former players Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Michael Carrick and Ruud van Nistelrooy all under consideration.

Current goalkeeper Darren Fletcher, who was in charge of Burnley, will return to lead the team when Brighton visit Old Trafford on Sunday in the third round of the FA Cup.
