Luis Enrique: PSG 'did not deserve' win the UEFA Super Cup

Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique said his team “did not deserve” to win the UEFA Super Cup after they produced a late dramatic dramatic to beat Tottenham Hotspur in a penalty shooting on Wednesday.

Nuno Mendes turned the kick into the shows into the shooting to complete a return of the PSG that seemed unlikely when Tottenham had a 2-0 advantage in the 85th minute of regulation in the annual match between the most recent winners of the Champions League and the Europa League.

And Luis Enrique said that the contrasting physical conditioning levels of the two teams were evident, and his team had only resumed training after his career to the club's final of the club last month.

“For 80 minutes we did not deserve that, I think Tottenham deserved to win the game because they were fit, they were training for six weeks and played a great game,” Luis Enrique told TNT Sports.

“We have been training only for six days, but sometimes football is unfair. I have to say that we were very lucky in the last 10 minutes that we could score two goals.”

Lee Kang-in gave PSG hope by reducing the deficit with a fierce shot in the lower corner and the substitute partner Gonçalo Ramos grabbed a draw in the fourth minute of detention time to put the 2-2 in Stadio Friuli in Udine.

Even then, Tottenham put himself in a position to achieve a discomfort by taking a 2-0 advantage in the shooting after the first vitinha failure for the PSG. However, Micky Van de Ven and Mathys Tel failed from the place for the Spurs and the PSG obtained four penalties in a row, the last of which was criticized by Mendes.

“My players had faith until the last minute, like our followers,” said Luis Enique.

It was a debut for Lucas Chevalier, a goalkeeper who just joined Lille and assumed as the first option in the PSG of Gianluigi Donnarumma, considered by many as the best goalkeeper in the world.

Chevalier had bad luck when granting Tottenham's opening goal in 39, tilting Joao Palhinha's shot in the crossbar just to come from seeing rapid reactions and produces house.

However, he was to blame, for the second after not being able to avoid a heading of the newly appointed captain of Tottenham, Cristian Romero, in 48.

Chevalier ended the night keeping a penalty of Van de Ven in the shooting, a tiebreaker of the game in which Donnarumma often thrive. The Italian could have been watching from home, since he did not travel to Italy on Tuesday before announcing that he would leave the PSG.

“It shows a great personality, which is very important if you want to stay in a club like PSG because there is a lot of pressure around us,” said Enrique. “But I am very happy for him because he shows a lot of personality.”

The PSG midfielder added Vitinha: “That is really the definition of equipment because once someone fails, you have to help your colleague again and still win. And that is really incredible because in another day someone else will fail and someone will take a step forward.”
