Bass was joined by gymnast Simone Biles, who was wearing a walking boot after injuring her calf earlier in the Olympics, as the two stood on stage to listen to her perform “The Star-Spangled Banner” in front of the crowd at the Stade de France.
Actor Tom Cruise then abseiled down from the stadium rafters into the arena, where he received a big kiss from a woman. He then received the Olympic flag and set off on his cinematic journey from Paris to Los Angeles on a motorcycle.
The TV show showed Cruise racing through the streets of Paris in the back of a cargo plane. He then somehow managed to reach the Hollywood sign, which was adorned with the Olympic rings. Professional mountain biker Kate Courtney rode down the steps of the Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles and handed the flag to former American sprinter Michael Johnson.
