LaLiga will denounce Vinícius' gesture directed at Rayo: sources

LaLiga will formally report a gesture directed by Vinícius Júnior to Rayo Vallecano fans following Real Madrid's 3-3 draw on Saturday, as well as the fans' chants that preceded it, sources have told ESPN.

Vinícius was a substitute in the second half of the LaLiga clash in Vallecas, in which Madrid lost 2-0, reacted to lead 3-2 and then conceded again to lose two valuable points in the title race.

Videos shared on social media showed the Brazil international responding to the chants and shouts of the crowd as he left the field, with a gesture that seemed to suggest that Rayo would be relegated to the second division.

On Monday, sources told ESPN that LaLiga would report both the fan chants and Vinícius' response to the Spanish soccer federation's disciplinary committee.

“We will have to see the final report,” LaLiga president Javier Tebas told the press on Monday. “I saw the game. It is important to emphasize that there were no racist chants… I think there was a provocation, with those insults, and the player, like any other, got upset, that's all.”

Speaking to COPE radio on Sunday, Rayo president Raúl Martín Presa described Vinicius' performance as “incorrect.”

“You are telling a fan, a Rayo fan, 'go to Second' when for us being in First is survival,” said Martín Presa. “Football players should be professionals.”
