Kylian Mbappé is not included in France's squad for the pre-Olympic

Kylian Mbappe has not been named in France coach Thierry Henry's 25-man preliminary squad for the Paris Olympics this summer.

The 25-year-old, who is expected to join Real Madrid after his contract with Paris Saint-Germain expires, said on March 22 that he was hopeful of taking part in the Games.

Henry suggested at a news conference on Monday that his club had not allowed Mbappé to play in his country's Olympic Games.

“Real Madrid was very direct about the Olympic Games,” Henry said.

“The last time I received so many rejections was in college. There haven't even been any negotiations. You go, you ask, they say no, and you leave.”

Henry was able to include Crystal Palace duo Michael Olise and Jean-Philippe Mateta in his player list, while Bayern Munich's Mathys Tel and PSG's 18-year-old midfielder Warren Zaire-Emery were also named in a squad looking strong.

Khéphren Thuram, son of former French international Lilian and brother of Inter Milan striker Marcus, also participated.

The Arsenal legend also included Alexandre Lacazette, who spent five years at the north London club, and highly-rated Lille defender Leny Yoro in the list which will be reduced to a total of 18 in time for the tournament.

The rules of the competition state that each team must be composed entirely of players born on or after January 1, 2001 (23 years old at the time of the Games). However, three players born before that date can also be included.
