Kevin Durant slams Suns rumors of trading him: 'Lies'

Trade rumors involving Kevin Durant and the Phoenix Suns have been circulating all offseason, but the perennial NBA All-Star doesn't want to hear about them anymore.

It all started at the 2024 NBA Draft when ESPN reported that the Houston Rockets were trying to lure Durant away from Phoenix via trade after acquiring multiple draft picks in a deal with the Brooklyn Nets.

ESPN's Stephen A. Smith also said on his show, “First Take,” that the Suns want to opt out of Durant's contract.

But a recent interview with Yahoo Sports shows Durant debunking all those rumors.

“You could just hit the 'KD wants to leave' button anytime you wanted some attention,” Durant told the outlet while training with the U.S. basketball team ahead of the Paris Olympics.

“Yeah, it's a button. What else is going to draw people in this time? Other than saying, 'Oh, the officer is leaving again.' That story is always going to be successful.”

Durant added that rumors that the Suns wanted to trade him were “lies” and that it was hard to ignore what he had been seeing this offseason in various media outlets.

“For someone to say: 'Phoenix wants to get rid of KD' [business]”I sit here thinking, 'Where is this coming from?'” he said. “It bothers me that people lie like that and the public swallows the headline. It makes me sad when people believe the lies and just make up nonsense.”

As you can see, Durant has been dealing with trade rumors no matter what stage of his career he is in for quite some time now. Even Suns general manager James Jones reiterated this in his comments after the first night of the Draft.

“It's the question, it's the topic of discussion, it's the material that generates clicks and that everyone wants to talk about,” he said, via AZ Central.

Durant still has two seasons remaining on his contract with the Suns, who pay him an average of $48.55 million annually.

And while he's currently focused on getting another gold medal with Team USA, Durant still wants NBA titles and hopes it comes with the Suns, a team that failed to reach its full potential last season after being swept by eventual Western Conference champion Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round of the playoffs.

“Of course I want to win the championship. Of course. I want to play well every game, I don't even have to talk about that kind of stuff,” Durant told Yahoo.
