John Mateer de Oklahoma 'never opted in sports', it was 'internal joke'

Oklahoma's titular field marshal, John Mateer, after screenshots of past references to “Sports Games” in his avemo account, appeared online on Monday, denied having participated in the game, saying on Tuesday that he was “interior jokes” with his friends.

School officials realized the screenshots on Monday night and are investigating the situation, a source to Pete Thamel de ESPN told.

“The accusations that once I participated in the sports game are false,” Mateer published in X on Tuesday. “My previous descriptions of Venmo did not accurately portray the transactions in question, but were inside the jokes between my friends and me.

“I have never opted for sports. I understand the seriousness of the matter, but I recognize that, taken from context, those venmo descriptions suggest otherwise. I can assure my teammates, coaches and NCAA officials who have not participated in any sports game.”

The screenshots posted online on Monday night showed that Mateer allegedly included twice “sports games” in Memorands for Transactions on November 20, 2022, while he was first year student in the state of Washington. Supposedly, both transactions were made to an avemo account for Richard Roaten, which is believed to be a teammate in the state of Washington at that time.

University athletes are prohibited from betting on any sport offered by the NCAA, with sanctions for the loss of eligibility.

Ou Athletics issued a statement by saying that “he takes any accusation of the game seriously and works closely with the NCAA in any situation of concern.” The school said that “I know any research from the NCAA and has no reason to believe that there is a slope.”

Mateer, the number 1 general player in the Classification of the ESPN portal, was transferred to Oklahoma from the Washington state this low season. It happened for 3,139 yards and 29 touchdowns last season, its third with the Coupars.

Oklahoma occupies the 18th position in the first survey of Associty Press Top 25. The Sooners open their season at home on August 30 against the state of Illinois.
