John Hartwell takes a step down as a athletic director in Louisiana-Monroe

Monroe, the Athletic Director of Louisiana-Monroe, John Hartwell, resigned on Monday after two years and six months at work.

An announcement by the University said Hartwell, who was hired in February 2023, “will look for other professional opportunities.”

“We appreciate what John has done for Ulm Athletics in the last seasons and we wish him already his family,” said ULM president, Dr. Carrie L. Castille.

“There is a plan in place, and we will make this plan know as soon as logistics end,” he added. “My commitment to Ulm Athletics and the Sun Belt conference is unwavering, and we will continue to find ways to win in the field, on the court, in the community and in the classroom.”

ULM ended last at the Sun Belt conference in basketball and male baseball last season, and his 2024 football team was two games below .500.

Hartwell said in a statement of a prayer that was grateful for the support he had received from “athletes, coaches, senior staff, donors, former students and the entire Warhawk nation.”

The University said it would announce a provisional replacement for Hartwell soon.
