Dak Prescott is entering his eighth season as quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys, and it could be his last.
Prescott's four-year, $160 million contract expires at the end of the season, and it appears to be a complicated situation.
But Jerry Jones seems to have made up his mind.

Jones dismissed suggestions that the 2024 season would be Prescott's last in Dallas.
“I don't think so,” Jones said. “To be very specific, I don't think this is his last year with the Cowboys. Am I being psychotic about my mirror? No.
“I guess I just want to say, just in case it's not clear, how much we appreciate what Dak Prescott has meant to this team in a positive way. Players play better when he's on the field. He makes his teammates play at a higher level, there's no doubt about that. So I'm right in line with his biggest fan.”

On one hand, “America’s Team” finished with a 12-5 record in each season of Prescott’s contract. On the other hand, that team has won just one playoff game in that span, and was defeated in the first round last season.
Prescott is coming off what was arguably his best season. He led the NFL with 36 touchdowns, threw for 4,516 yards and finished second in the NFL MVP race.
Wide receiver CeeDee Lamb had the best season of his young career, finishing third in Offensive Player of the Year voting with an NFL-high 135 receptions for career bests of 1,749 yards and 12 touchdowns.
However, Jones seemed to hint that the salary cap, combined with future payouts for Micah Parsons and Lamb, could factor into Prescott's potential free agency.

“Believe it or not, I've had a lot of things in my life that I've wanted and I haven't been able to get because I couldn't afford them,” Jones said.
It's unknown what Prescott is looking for in a new deal, but given the deals other quarterbacks have landed since the 2023 offseason, he'll be looking for something lucrative.
