Jérôme Boateng found guilty of abuse and given warning

Former Germany defender Jerome Boateng has been given a suspended fine and a warning after a Munich court found him guilty on Friday of wilful bodily harm against his ex-partner.

The suspended fine of 200,000 euros ($217,760) (5,000 euros per day for 40 days) will only have to be paid if Boateng commits another offence.

The judge also ordered Boateng to pay a total of 100,000 euros to charities, a court spokesman said.

The 2014 world champion, who appeared in court in Munich wearing a dark blue suit, was accused of injuring his ex-girlfriend in a fight during a holiday in 2018.

The mother of his twin daughters accused Boateng of throwing a lamp at her which malfunctioned and then throwing a small box at her which injured her arm, before punching her and pulling her hair.

Boateng, 35, who recently transferred from Salernitana in Italy to LASK Linz in Austria, denied harming his ex-girlfriend.

Friday's trial was the third in the personal injury case.

The public prosecutor's office, which had requested a fine of 1.12 million euros, now has one week to decide whether to appeal the case to the Bavarian Supreme Court, according to a spokesman.

“I am immensely relieved that this nightmare that has lasted for years is over,” Boateng said in a statement released by his media adviser.

“Now I want to concentrate on my family and football.”
