Ja Morant's teammate appears to fire an imaginary gun in three-point celebration; social networks react

Desmond Bane found himself in hot water with NBA fans Wednesday night during a viral celebration.

The Memphis Grizzlies guard hit a three-pointer against the Philadelphia 76ers en route to a victory, leaving Philadelphia 2-12 to start the season.

But after the three, Bane taunted the Sixers' Caleb Martin by appearing to use his arms as a weapon and intend to shoot Martin.

Bane extended his right arm in Martin's direction and then pulled it back at a 90-degree angle.

Bane, of course, is a teammate of Ja Morant, who served two separate suspensions for weapons-related incidents last year and found himself in legal trouble due to a fight at his home.

Because Bane and Morant share the word together, social media was quick to make jokes.

“Ja Morant approved cell phone,” wrote one user.

“Learning from his teammate,” said another.

He added one more: “Ja took him to the shooting range.”

In early 2023, Morant was seen brandishing a gun at a Denver nightclub, earning him an eight-game suspension. Months later he repeated the offense and was sidelined for 25 games.

In July 2022, Morant got into an altercation with some 17-year-olds, but a judge ruled that he acted in self-defense. Four days earlier, Morant had allegedly “threatened” the head of security at a Memphis shopping center, and a member of Morant's group allegedly shoved him in the head.

In the 2022-23 season, the Indiana Pacers He claimed that after an altercation between associates of Morant and the Pacers, a red laser was pointed at the team from a van carrying Morant, which the Pacers believed was a weapon. The NBA investigated the incident and found that no “individuals threatened others with a weapon.”

Morant is back this season after playing in just nine games last year; had suffered a season-ending shoulder injury just weeks after returning from his second suspension.
