Senior Day couldn't have gone better for Caitlin Clark, who set the all-time NCAA points record in Division I college basketball during the Iowa Hawkeyes' 93-83 victory over Ohio State.

Clark made two free throws as the first half of the game ended, surpassing Pete Maravich's previous record of 3,617 points during his years at LSU. He came into the game needing 18 points and got them all in the first half after free throws due to a technical foul.

Clark finished with 35 points, nine assists and six rebounds in his final regular season home game.

After the record-breaking performance, Clark and her other Hawkeyes senior teammates (Gabbie Marshall, Sharon Goodman, Molly Davis and Kate Martin) were honored for their years of commitment.

“I think as I reflect on my four years, I'm very grateful,” Clark told the crowd when asked what her journey has been like to this point.

Holly Rowe, the veteran journalist who hosted the Senior Day postgame ceremony, noted that Clark always yells at his teammates during interviews over the years despite his impressive performances that led to the story. of college basketball.

For Clark, it's something that's not forced. His humble nature comes naturally.

“I think it's easy,” he said of showing love to his teammates. “These people are my best friends and that's not for show. They have my back and do a lot of dirty work for me to have fun and make crazy shots… They are my best friends off the court.”

Clark loved that the Hawkeyes “came out and dominated” on Senior Day against a Buckeyes team that is ranked No. 2 in the country and beat No. 6 Iowa earlier this season.

“We played with a lot of energy,” he said. “…I'm proud of our girls. Five seniors who have been together for a long time and we wanted to go out and send them to their home court.”

Clark said he was “taking it all in” during his final regular-season home game. However, with the top teams in the NCAA Tournament hosting games, there could be a maximum of two more home games this month.

“It'll be a little less bitter,” Clark said. “…I probably won't get hit until a little later.”

While the ceremony was a nice way to honor these Hawkeyes, a group led by Clark that changed college basketball not only in Des Moines but across the country, they know the work isn't done.

The Hawkeyes will need Clark to continue adding points to that all-time Big 10 Tournament record before the NCAA Tournament arrives. His performance is crucial for Iowa to return to the national championship game, where it lost to the LSU Tigers last season.
