Alex Palou is at the top of the world of open wheel races, since he won Indianapolis 500 on Sunday for the first time in his career and achieved his fifth victory in six Indycar races this season.

Palou seemed to be cemented in his Indycar seat in the predictable future, since he made it clear that joining Formula 1 was not in the cards.

“(F1) no longer calls me. I still follow it. It's a huge series. It's amazing. I am a great admirer, but I don't think they are having fun as much as I'm here,” Palou told The Indy Star.

“I don't see people who celebrate with their wives and children as much as we do. I don't see them hanging in the bus lot or having dinner with their mechanics. I just enjoy driving and fun and being with my people, so I think (F1) is quite the opposite.”

Palou immersed his toe in the waters of the F1 in 2022 when he signed with the McLaren tests of the previous car program. He was then appointed reserve pilot for the 2023 season, but never ran in an official event.

Palou joined Indycar in 2020 with Dale Coyne Racing. He moved to Chipsi Racing in 2021. He has won the Indycar championship three times and is in the row for a room.

After the victory of Indy 500, Itessi called him the “best driver.”

“I think he is one of the greats. It's that simple,” he said. “We have certainly had some great pilots in our team, and he is there, in the worst case, shoulder shoulder with everyone else.”
