Hideki Matsuyama will be without his caddie and coach this weekend after the trio were mugged at a London airport.
All three were headed to the FedEx Cup playoffs in Memphis, Tennessee, after the Paris Olympics, but made a stop in London.
While there, Matsuyama had his wallet stolen, while his caddie, Shota Hayoto, and his coach, Mikihito Kuroyima, had their passports taken.

As a result, his caddie and coach were forced to return to Japan, where their passports and visas are being reissued.
“There is a chance that they will succeed. [to the tournament]”But we have to approach it thinking that it's close to zero,” Matsuyama said, according to Golf Digest Japan.
In fact, the New York Post notes that the earliest they could arrive in the U.S. would be the week of the Tour Championship; Matsuyama would have to be in the top 30 to play at Atlanta's East Lake Golf Club, and he currently sits in eighth place.

Without his accomplices, Matsuyama says, “all the responsibility falls on me.”
“I'm looking forward to this moment for the first time in a long time,” he added.
Instead, Matsuyama will have Taiga Tabuchi in his bag for the foreseeable future.
“I want to convey to [Tabuchi] What I have cultivated with Shota [Hayato] “In the field,” Matsuyama said.

The 2021 Masters champion took home the Olympic bronze medal behind gold from American Scottie Scheffler and silver from Britain's Tommy Fleetwood. He won the Genesis Invitational earlier this year, marking his first victory since the 2022 Sony Open in Hawaii.
