Heartfelt tributes pour in for Jacoby Jones as former coach and teammates remember Super Bowl hero


Former NFL wide receiver and kick returner Jacoby Jones has died. He was 40.

He The sun of Baltimore On Sunday, the NFL reported Jones' death, citing an NFL source with direct knowledge of the situation. The Baltimore Ravens later said the entire organization was “heartbroken.”

“We are completely heartbroken to learn of the passing of Jacoby Jones,” he said. The crows wrote Sunday morning afternoon at X.

Jones spent his final three NFL seasons in Baltimore, but will be remembered for his heroics in Super Bowl XLVII.

Jones moved into coaching after his playing days ended, most recently serving as wide receivers coach at Alabama State.

Jones' former teammates, coaches and others paid tribute to the All-Pro receiver on Sunday.

“I loved Jacoby Jones. We all loved him. His spirit, his enthusiasm and his love for people were powerful. He was a light. He was the beloved son of his loving mother, Mrs. Emily. They were very close. He was a man of faith,” Ravens head coach John Harbaugh wrote in a statement.

“My favorite football play was when Jacoby was talking to his mother in the end zone, just before a kickoff return at the end of the game against the Vikings in a shootout in the middle of a snowstorm. Jacoby then ran to catch the ball and run it back for a touchdown.”

“My personal favorite moment with Jacoby was every time I saw his smiling, joy-filled face. Rest in peace, Jacoby, in the arms of Jesus.”

Two-time NFL MVP Lamar Jackson described Jones as a “legend.”

“no way RIP LEGEND,” Jackson wrote.

Former Houston Texans pass rusher JJ Watt reflected on his time as Jones' teammate.

“Jacoby was one of the most fun teammates and people I've ever been around. Always dancing and laughing, with a permanent smile on his face. Gone too soon. Rest in peace Jacoby Jones,” Watt wrote.

“Jacoby Jones was one of the most energetic and fun teammates around. He always had a smile on his face and was never afraid to dance. It was a blessing to have shared the reunion with you, brother. Gone too soon. Rest in peace, Jacoby,” said retired NFL quarterback Matt Schaub.

Former NFL kicker and current ESPN personality Pat McAfee called Jones “an absolute legend.”

“Jacoby Jones was an absolute legend… he was loved by literally everyone who knew him and lit up every room and field he entered.

“Rest easy my brother… we will miss your presence.”

Donte Stallworth recalled the time he trained with Jones.

“I'll never forget training with Jacoby Jones in New Orleans. He was fresh out of St. August when I was playing for the Saints and he made it clear his plans to not only play in the NFL but to make an impact. He did exactly that.

“Rest in peace brother”

“My former teammate Jacoby Jones passed away. Damn, this hits me hard. His laugh and larger-than-life personality will be something I will always remember. Rest in peace bro,” Matt Leinart wrote.

Former Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith called Jones “1 of 1.”

Details surrounding Jones' death have not yet been released.

The Houston Texans selected Jones in the third round in 2007. In addition to the Texans and Ravens, Jones had experience with the Steelers and Chargers organizations.
