Lincoln, Neb.-Greg Sharpe, La Voz de Game for game for Football in Nebraska since 2007, died of cancer, his family announced through school on Saturday. He was 61 years old.
Sharpe died on Friday, 10 months after he announced that he had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He was able to work several games last season.
“While his passion and energy in the call of football and Husker baseball brought joy to so many during the last 17 seasons, he comforts us to know that his legacy will live through these same moments that he already narrated through the relationships he built, “His family's statement said. “While the public knew him for his booming voice and his infectious personality, those closest to him knew him for his loyalty and dedication to them.”
For 17 years, Greg Sharpe spoke beyond the microphone and in our hearts.
His legacy will be intertwined at the times he narrated and continued through the relationships he built.

Sharpe grew up in Olathe, Kansas, attended the state of Kansas and was the voice of football and K-State basketball from 1996 to 2002.
Nebraska hired him to call the last three soccer games of the 2007 season and made him the permanent announcer the following year.
The National Sports Media Association in December appointed him Nebraska SportsCaster of the year, and last month the Athletics Department appointed the work space of its press box as “Greg Sharpe Radio Booth”.
“This is a difficult day for everyone,” said the director of Athletics Troy Dannen. “Not only those who were close to Greg and those who had the opportunity to work with him, but also for Husker fans who have good memories of Greg calls from iconic moments in the history of Nebraska.
“Greg was an incredible person and was a friend for everyone. In a nutshell, he defined what meant being a Husker, and will always be a Husker.”
Sharpe is survived by his wife, Amy, and the daughters Emily, Campbell and Taylor.
