Anthony Ammirati may not return home from the Olympics with a medal, but he may be a winner after all.
The 21-year-old French pole vaulter was in contention for a place in the men's pole vault final but failed to qualify.
During his third attempt on Saturday, Ammirati was attempting to clear a height of 5.70 metres and had a rare failed attempt.

Unfortunately for Ammirati, his male region brushed the bar twice as he was passing over it, resulting in a failed jump.
A replay showed it was obvious what happened and the announcers seemed unsure of how to address it.
Naturally, social media caught wind of the mishap and Ammirati quickly became the butt of some rude jokes.
“Oh, he brought that baguette to the games.” One user wrote in one of the most printable responses.
“Well, sometimes you win and sometimes you lose,” added another.

Given the war on transgender athletes in women's sports, some of those jokes also circulated.
“I can understand this happening to a male athlete. When it happens to a female athlete, it's surprising.” A user posted.
One X user even tallied Ammirati's Instagram follower count, which had increased from around 8,400 to just over 9,000. in less than a minute. At the time of this publication, it had already reached 32,000.

Ammirati's best jump was 5.60 metres, which earned him 15th place. The men's final is scheduled for Monday.
Ammirati won the U-20 World Championship in Colombia two years ago.
