Martinique’s Golden Lion suffered a humiliating 12-0 defeat to Lille in the Coupe de France on Saturday halfway through an 8,000-mile round trip to play the match.
The Golden Lion, champions of Martinique and one of several foreign teams from French territories participating in the Cup, faced Ligue 1 side Lille in the round of 16 and their journey began on Wednesday with a direct flight to Paris.

However, three days later, they were no match for Lille, as the first division team achieved their biggest victory in their history.
Canadian striker Jonathan David and Kosovo winger Edon Zhegrova scored hat-tricks for the hosts before the Lion’s long journey home.
There were also doubles from Turkish midfielder Yusuf Yazici and Icelandic Hakon Arnar Haraldsson, with the remaining goals coming from Tiago Santos and Amine Messoussa.
There were no major surprises on Saturday, although Nice, second in the French league behind Paris Saint-Germain, needed penalty kicks to beat second-division Auxerre at home.
The Coupe de France continues on Sunday when sixth-tier amateur club Revel takes on the might of French champions PSG and World Cup winner Kylian Mbappe.
