France and Canada drew 0-0 in a friendly on Sunday as the two nations concluded their preparations for Euro 2024 and the Copa America.
France threatened to take the lead in the first half, but attempts by N'Golo Kante and Marcus Thuram were denied by excellent saves from goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau.
The tie continued into the second half, with both teams creating chances but failing to find the back of the net.
French star Kylian Mbappé came off the bench in the 74th minute. The new Real Madrid striker was close to scoring in the last play of the match, but Crepeau prevented him from making it 1-0.
It was the last home appearance for French striker and record scorer Olivier Giroud after announcing his international retirement after the Euros, and he received a standing ovation at the Nouveau Stade in Bordeaux.
“We faced a good opponent with a lot of intensity and we had some good opportunities in the first half. Afterwards it was more difficult,” said coach Didier Deschamps.
France, who comfortably beat Luxembourg 3-0 on Wednesday, are among the favorites to win the European title with the tournament starting in Germany on Friday.
“It's not ideal, but for me it was important to spread the game and involve everyone in these two friendly matches. Today was not easy and we are going to make the most of it for what awaits us in the future.” June 17,” Deschamps added.
France will face Austria in their first match of the tournament before facing the Netherlands on June 21 and Poland four days later. Canada, under new coach Jesse Marsch, will open the Copa América against Lionel Messi's Argentina on June 20, before facing Peru five days later and Chile on June 29.
