A new chapter for college baseball Coach Jim Schlossnagle has had a rough start.
After losing the decisive Game 3 of the College World Series on Monday night, the former Texas A&M Coach Schlossnagle was asked during his postgame press conference about rumors of his expected departure for another job opening.
Schlossnagle did not like the line of questioning very much and suggested that the reporter, later identified as TexAgs reporter Richard Zane, was “selfish” for asking that question.

“I left my family to be a coach at Texas A&M. I took the job at Texas A&M to never take another job again and that hasn't changed in my opinion. It's unfair to talk about something like that…” he said. “I understand you have to ask the question, but I gave up a big part of my life to take this job, and I've put my whole soul into this job and I've given this job every drop I could give it. Write that down.”
But then the rumors became reality: Schlossnagle would take the job with the Aggies' in-state rival, Texas Longhorns.
Social media erupted over the irony of the clip, with many calling for Schlossnagle to apologize for her harsh response.

And so he did on Wednesday.
“I want to publicly apologize to Richard Zane of TexAgs,” Schlossnagle said during his introductory press conference. “He's a young reporter. He asked a question that was obvious. I wish I could have answered it better. But at that moment, 30 minutes after the last pitch, all I could think about was our players.”
“I wasn't really in the mood to talk about myself or the future. So, [I] “Apologize to Richard for that.”

Schlossnagle's departure followed the Aggies' loss to Tennessee in the College World Series championship game this week.
On Wednesday, he said he understood fans' reaction to the news of his departure.
“If I had left Texas A&M to go to another university, in another part of the country, the interesting texts and messages I received yesterday probably wouldn't have happened. But I understand.”
