Floyd Mayweather Jr. did something Saturday night that most boxing fans aren't used to seeing: He changed referees in the middle of their fight.
The bizarre moment occurred in the second round of his fight against John Gotti III in Mexico City. Mayweather was reprimanded by referee Hector Afu after it was determined that he had hit Gotti in the back of the head.

Mayweather was not happy with the decision. “Money” basically told the referee to get out of his way. Afu and Mayweather then exchanged words.
Afu was knocked out of the match in the next round and Alfredo Uruzquieta took his place, according to Bloody Elbow.
Boxing fans watching the fight joked that Mayweather “fired” Afu in the middle of the fight.
The Mayweather-Gotti fight was a June 2023 rematch that ended in a chaotic scene.

Mayweather and Gotti exchanged words for more than half of the fight, and referee Kenny Bayless found it increasingly difficult to separate them and stop them from brawling. After Bayless stopped the fight, things took an ugly turn.
Gotti began to dodge Bayless to go after Mayweather. The two began to throw punches at each other as their teams got into the ring, where the pushing and shoving continued. Gotti was pushed into his corner and Mayweather into his.
Saturday night's fight was much less dramatic.
Mayweather is 50-0 in his professional career and has not fought professionally since his win against Conor McGregor in 2017.
