The Indiana Fever secured a playoff spot on Tuesday while several teams below them suffered losses in their games.

On Sunday, the Fever defeated the Dallas Wings to get closer to a playoff spot and didn't even have to step onto the court as the Phoenix Mercury and Las Vegas Aces did the dirty work for them. The Mercury defeated the Atlanta Dream to also secure a playoff spot, and the Aces took care of the Chicago Sky.

Indiana’s win over Dallas was the team’s 17th and the first time the team has surpassed the .500 mark in quite some time. It’s the first time the team will appear in the postseason since 2016, when Stephanie White was the coach and Tamika Catchings led the offense. The Fever also had 17 wins that season.

The fact that the Fever managed to make it to the playoffs after much effort is a feat in itself. The team started with a 1-8 record and Caitlin Clark was still trying to fit in with the offense led by Aliyah Boston, Kelsey Mitchell and Erika Wheeler.

Throughout the season, Clark stood out and is the leading candidate for WNBA Rookie of the Year. The team seemed to be more cohesive since returning from its Olympic break. The team has a 6-1 record and its only blemish was a 10-point loss to the Minnesota Lynx, one of the best teams in the WNBA.

On Wednesday, the Fever will look to move up the standings when they open a six-game homestand against the Los Angeles Sparks. Their season ends with the Washington Mystics on Sept. 19.

There is one playoff spot left to be determined, and it could come down to the wire.
