FC Twente and Czech Republic midfielder Michal Sadílek will not play in the European Championship in Germany after falling from a bicycle and injuring his leg, the national team spokesperson reported on Sunday.
The 25-year-old player played in the last Euro Cup in 2021. He played 24 games for his country and scored one goal.
On Friday, Sadílek captained the team and played the full 90 minutes in a 7-1 win over Malta in a warm-up friendly.
“Unfortunately Sadílek fell while riding his bicycle and suffered a laceration to his leg,” the team spokesperson said in a statement.
“This is a big setback for us, because Michal is one of our experienced players,” said Czech Republic coach Ivan Hasek. “Not in vain did he wear the captain's armband during the match against Malta.”
The Czech Republic will play North Macedonia in a friendly on Monday before beginning their Euro 2024 campaign against Portugal in Group F on June 18.
