Endrick on criticism of Real Madrid: “That's football”

Real Madrid striker Endrick has said that he is not affected by external criticism after a defeat, stating that “that is football.”

Endrick, who joined The Whites This summer from Palmeiras, he became the youngest Madrid player to start a Champions League match at 18 years and 73 days old in Wednesday's 1-0 loss to Lille.

When asked about how to handle negative comments after defeats when playing for Madrid, Endrick said: “To be honest, I don't see anything. That's football; today you can score a goal and everyone is excited, but when you lose , knock you down.

“This happened to me a long time ago, when I was at Palmeiras. I learned not to see. I press that little 'it doesn't matter' button. I only follow the advice of my coach and my teammates.

“That's the important thing. What comes from outside, I don't care at all.”

Despite the unexpected defeat, Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti was satisfied with Endrick's performance.

The Brazilian striker took a shot on goal and was cautioned during the 57 minutes he was on the pitch.

Ancelotti said of Endrick after the game: “He did well, he had a very clear opportunity. He lacked a shot but he is young and has the quality to be with us.”

Endrick, who scored as a substitute against Stuttgart on his Champions League debut, admitted it was a different challenge to start for Madrid and added that he is learning a lot from Italian veteran Ancelotti.

“It's an amazing feeling,” Endrick said. “I am in the biggest club in the world. It is difficult to play from the beginning.

“Ancelotti always calls me to talk, he tells me how important it is for me to be here. I'm learning from others, I'm happy to be here. He asks me to play calmly, to be happy, and this match was not different, “When I knew I was going to play he told me to stay calm, to play my game. I think I'm happy to be training with Ancelotti, who is a great coach, as everyone knows, learning a lot from him.”

Madrid, which saw its 36-match unbeaten streak end on Wednesday, will return to action on Saturday when it hosts Villarreal in LaLiga.
