It is projected that former Duke Star Cooper Flagg is the number 1 selection by the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Draft of 2025, which will take place from June 25 to 26 at the Barclays Center in New York (both nights at 8 pm et in ABC and ESPN).
Flagg, a 9 -inch striker, has been considered the favorite as the best choice in the draft since August 2023, when he announced his decision to graduate from high school a year earlier and enrolled in a university when he was 17 years old.
Despite being one of the most expected first-year students to enter the university game in several years, Flagg overcame expectations by winning almost all the main national player awards of the year, averaging 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4.2 assists, and leading the Blue Devils (35-4) to a final appearance four.
The Mavericks obtained General Selection number 1, despite entering the draft lottery with only 1.8% chances of doing so, jumping 10 places and drawing the largest movement of any team in the history of the lottery.

Any suspense with regard to Flagg, 18, stopped at the night of the lottery, and the Mavericks won surprisingly the lottery and the right to select it. All the indications we have heard are that the Mavericks are content to recruit it (as Tim Macmahon of ESPN) and that Flagg will land happily in Dallas, where he will be thrown immediately to basketball with significant stakes and will avoid the agony of a long distance reconstruction to begin his professional career.
The Mavericks, sources told ESPN, have scheduled a private visit with Flagg on June 17, and have no plans to solve any other perspective for selection number 1.
Wait that Flagg is ready for the challenge, since he has maintained first place on our draft board largely unanswered, and continues to improve at an impressive pace. It will be a shocking defender and a versatile option for Dallas immediately, with space to grow and expand its comfort as a scorer and creator of games over time.
