The 2024 MLB Home Run Derby champion is Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Teoscar Hernandez, who outlasted Kansas City Royals phenom Bobby Witt Jr. in a thriller at Globe Life Field on Monday night.
This year's Derby had a new format: the top four advanced to the semi-finals and then the usual head-to-head matchups took place.
Hernandez managed to hit 14 home runs in his final round, and had to wait and watch as Witt had a chance to tie him or win.

Witt entered the bonus round with 11 homers, needing three to tie Hernandez and four to get the win.
With one out remaining and just one home run needed to tie the game, Witt launched a 102 mph shot with a nice angle toward center field.
However, his hit went to the deepest part of the stadium and crashed into the wall, needing only a few more feet to get out.
Hernandez, who watched the ball fly through the air the whole time, celebrated the second he saw it stay in.
MLB HOME RUN DERBY NATIONAL ANTHEM SINGER'S PERFORMANCE FACE CRITICISM ON SOCIAL MEDIA
At 31, Hernandez is the oldest player to win the Home Run Derby since David Ortiz did it at age 34 in 2010.
Hernandez, who is tied for 14th in MLB with 19 home runs on the season so far, had wanted to take part in this hallowed All-Star weekend festivity for quite some time, and with the help of his former Toronto Blue Jays teammate Vladimir Guerrero Jr., he came out on top.
The semifinal matchup between Hernandez and Philadelphia Phillies star Alec Bohm was electric as it was decided on a swing-off, with each batter having just three swings to add to his total of 14 home runs.
Hernandez, who was the lowest-ranked starter, went first and hit two homers on three swings. Bohm, who had a chance to reach the championship round with just one homer in his bonus round but couldn't make it, hit just one on three swings and lost.
This swing-off might not have happened if Bohm's final swing in his semifinal round had not gone foul, as it certainly had distance but didn't stay inside the left field foul pole.
Witt had an easier semifinal, defeating Cleveland Guardians third baseman Jose Ramirez 17-12. He had some time to rest as Bohm and Hernandez battled at the plate.
Pete Alonso, the New York Mets slugger seeking his third Home Run Derby title in his fifth consecutive appearance, failed to advance past the first round in this new format in which only the top four teams advanced.

Baltimore Orioles phenom Gunnar Henderson had the lowest number with 11 homers in the first round, while veteran Atlanta Braves slugger Marcell Ozuna and hometown favorite Adolis Garcia also failed to advance.
