PSV Eindhoven will not exercise its option to sign Sergiño Dest permanently after the American defender tore his ACL in training last month, sources told ESPN.
Dest, 23, has been a mainstay for PSV this season as they won the Eredivisie, and coach Peter Bosz recently expressed his desire to retain him beyond the summer.

However, with Dest now facing months out of action, he will formally return to his parent club Barcelona from July to carry out his rehabilitation.
PSV signed Dest on a season-long loan last year in a deal that included an option to make the transfer permanent this summer for €11 million.
Dest made 36 appearances for the Dutch champions in all competitions before being injured in training on 20 April.
The full-back confirmed last week that he had torn his anterior cruciate ligament and would need surgery, which ruled him out of this summer's Copa América with the United States.
Sources add that PSV could review the situation when Dest returns to fitness, although he is unlikely to feature again in the remainder of the calendar year.
Dest's contract with Barca expires in 2025, so he could potentially leave the Catalan club as a free agent next summer if he does not leave before then.
After breaking through at Ajax, Dest joined Barca in 2020 for a fee of around €20m, and featured regularly in his first season under manager Ronald Koeman.
In total, he has played 72 games for Barça, but has spent the last two seasons on loan, first at Italian side AC Milan and then at PSV this season.
