De La Fuente's contract with Spain extends until the 2026 World Cup

The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) announced this Thursday the renewal of the contract of men's coach Luis de la Fuente until 2026.

De La Fuente's previous contract with Spain was due to expire this summer, but the RFEF activated a renewal clause in his contract to extend his stay.

The new contract will see De La Fuente, 62, guide The Red beyond this summer's Euro Cup until the end of the 2026 World Cup.

A statement from the RFEF said: “The Management Commission considers that the renewal of De La Fuente is a necessary step for the team and for the institution that runs football in Spain, by providing stability to the team in preparation for the Eurocup, which will start in June.”

With De La Fuente, the Spanish Olympic team won silver at the Tokyo 2022 Games.

He replaced Luis Enrique as head coach in December 2022 following Spain's elimination in the round of 16 of the World Cup.

The former Alaves coach led Spain to the UEFA Nations League title last year after beating Croatia in a penalty shootout.

Spain has qualified for Euro 2024 to be held in Germany this summer and is included in Group B along with Italy, Croatia and Albania.
