Dave Portnoy, Founder of Barstool Sports accused the Democratic leadership of trying to “hijack” democracy after President Biden announced on Sunday his decision to suspend his re-election bid amid mounting pressure within his own party.

In a video posted on X, Portnoy called the decision to withdraw from the campaign “the right decision,” but criticized the timing of it.

“Joe was beaten when the powers that be sent him to that debate. with Trump. “They knew what we've always known if we have two eyes and one brain: that he was a lettuce, a vegetable,” Portnoy said.

“It's the right decision, he shouldn't be running. It's not for the right reasons. Like, it's been that way for years and the Democrats have been covering it up. Then they say, 'Well, he probably can't beat Trump, so we have to put someone else in office.' How did they wait so long and now what? They can basically hand-pick who his replacement is going to be?”

He continued: “It's crazy that they waited this long and they're trying to hijack, basically, democracy. They're not letting people vote. This is a convention, it's crazy, because he's already been through this before he even ran for office. That in itself is crazy.”

“It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your president. While my intention has been to seek re-election, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to step down and focus exclusively on fulfilling my duties as president for the remainder of my term,” he said Sunday.
