The former basketball player from Alabama, Darius Miles, is scheduled to be tried for capital murder from December 1 on the Alabama circuit court, more than two years after being arrested in relation to Jamea Harris's fatal shooting in Tuscaloosa.
Miles, 23, was accused of “helping and inciting” Coacusado Michael Davis, who was convicted of capital murder. Davis was sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of probation and is in the process of appealing the verdict.
Davis was convicted of shooting the Harris Jeep during a shooting with Harris's boyfriend, Cedric Johnson. A bullet hit and killed Harris while she sat in the front passenger seat. In Alabama, shoot and kill someone while they are in a vehicle leads to a capital murder charge.
Prosecutors say that thousands provided Davis, who was his childhood friend, with the weapon. In Davis's trial, defense lawyers argued that Davis was protecting Johnson when he shot the gun.
The state had previously taken the death penalty out of the table by miles. He has been arrested without bail at the Tuscaloosa County prison since his arrest on January 15, 2023, the day he was removed from Alabama's basketball team.
Miles played 53 games for Alabama with two openings, averaging 4.2 points per game.
The forward of the Charlotte Hornets, Brandon Miller, a former Alabama prominent, was one of those who testified in Davis's trial. Miller and thousands had sent a text message in half an hour before the shooting, and Miller had driven his car to a bar in Tuscaloosa, where he was going to pick up thousands. Miller declared that he did not know that Miles had put his weapon in Miller's car until he arrived. Miller has not been accused of irregularities or accused of any crime and has cooperated with the investigation.
It is not yet known whether Miller or any other current or previous member of the Alabama Male Basketball Program will be called to testify in the thousands trial. In Davis's trial, the State called Miller and now Arizona's shipowner Jaden Bradley, who had been a member of Crimson Tide in 2023. The State also listed the former manager of the Alabama Cooper Lee team, who at the headquarters of the Miller's passenger, and the former basketball player Nick Pringle as a potential testimony in Davis's to testify.
Miller and Bradley declared in Davis's trial that Davis had been close to the Alabama basketball team often, mainly with thousands, although he had no official affiliation with the program.
