The Connecticut Sun Guard DiJonai Carrington criticized the WNBA for not promoting the team's historic game in front of a packed stadium Tuesday night, adding that the matchup against the Los Angeles Sparks should have been a nationally televised game.

The Sun headlined the league's first game at TD Garden, the home of the reigning NBA champions, the Boston Celtics.

Carrington scored 19 points in front of a sold-out crowd of 19,125 fans, setting a new franchise record in the 69-61 victory.

Carrington, however, was not entirely pleased with the way Tuesday's game played out and preemptively took to social media to criticize the league for failing to promote the game.

“As we have to do our own promotion… We will play in [TD Garden] “Tonight, sold out, over 19,000. First W game here. Historic. Not on TV, but you can watch it right here on Twitter,” Carrington said in a post on X, tagging the WNBA.

Carrington reaffirmed his stance at the postgame news conference, adding that the league knew the importance of his play at TD Garden about a year ago.

“I'm going to be honest all the time and I feel like Connecticut as a franchise has historically been disrespected,” she began.

“Sometimes if you want something, you have to go out and do it yourself. That's what I did for us. I think there could have been a lot more publicity or promotion from the top. Connecticut had announced we were having this game probably almost a year ago… There was plenty of time to do what needed to be done, but it didn't matter anyway because they showed up and sold out. We got the win, so I guess my tweet worked.”

Carrington added that in addition to the WNBA not promoting the game, she took issue with the game not being broadcast nationally.

“In my opinion, there should be no need to pay any kind of subscription to watch such a historic match. I'm biased, but in my opinion.”

According to Suns public relations, Tuesday's game marked the team's sixth sold-out game of the 2024 season and the third-highest-attended WNBA game this season.
