Chelsea exclude Cole Palmer from their Conference League squad

Chelsea have left Cole Palmer out of their UEFA Conference League squad, along with centre-back Wesley Fofana and central midfielder Romeo Lavia.

The west London club's 29-man squad for the UEFA third-tier league stage was announced on Thursday and included the likes of Pedro Neto, Mykhailo Mudryk and Jadon Sancho.

A new squad list has been announced for the knockout stages of the Conference League, which begins in February.

In the league phase, Chelsea will face Gent, Panathinaikos, Noah of Armenia, Bundesliga leaders Heidenheim, Astana and Shamrock Rovers.

Palmer made 55 appearances for club and country last season, only ending the campaign at the Euro 2024 final on 14 July against Spain, where he equalised for England before they ultimately fell short.

He is set for another long season as Chelsea are guaranteed a place at the revamped FIFA Club World Cup, which will be held in the United States next summer.

Chelsea earned their place in the competition thanks to their Champions League triumph in 2021. They have struggled to repeat that run in subsequent seasons, finishing sixth under Mauricio Pochettino in 2023-24 before the Argentine manager left.

Now under manager Enzo Maresca, Chelsea are 11th in the Premier League after three games.
