Khelif's inclusion in the Games has sparked debates about fairness in women's sport and sparked protests against Khelif. Many critics say the Algerian should not compete at the Games.

Caitlyn Jenner, who won the 1976 men's decathlon as Bruce Jenner, says the ordeal has “hurt” the competition.

“This whole thing has really hurt the Olympics… Everyone is talking about it,” Jenner told Fox News' “The Story” on Friday, adding that it has detracted from other achievements.

Jenner said Khelif should not be in a women's category.

“I don't like to be so blunt… but we have to have rules and regulations, and it all has to be down to DNA,” she said, claiming that those with XY chromosomes should participate in a male competition.

“I think the Olympic Committee did absolutely the wrong thing by allowing… [Khelif] compete,” Jenner added“It is a disgrace for the IOC to not protect the integrity of women's sports, and it is a disgrace for the IOC to not protect the safety of women's sports.

According to the IBA minutes available on its website, the decision was initially taken by the IBA Secretary General and CEO. The IBA Board only subsequently ratified it and only subsequently requested that a procedure be established to be followed in similar cases in the future and reflected in the IBA Rules. The minutes also say that the IBA should “establish a clear procedure on gender testing.”
