The anticipation was always real for Caitlin Clark, and Wednesday is the biggest proof of why.
Clark made a name for herself in college thanks to her outstanding scoring: earlier this year she became the NCAA's all-time leading scorer.
Sure, she can score at the professional level, but her history is in the assist department.

Clark set the WNBA record for most assists in a single game, recording 19 on Wednesday night against the Dallas Wings.
The previous record was held by Courtney Vandersloot, who was 18 on August 31, 2020.
Clark had a chance to accomplish the unthinkable by racking up 20 assists (he also scored 24 points), but his pass in the paint in the final seconds was intercepted by Dallas' stout defense.

Clark had 13 assists in three quarters, matching his previous career high, which he had already done four times this season (all since June 23). He then had six more in the fourth, giving him 11 in the second half alone.
Unfortunately, their efforts were in vain, as the Fever were defeated by the Wings, who entered the match at 5-19.
The game was tied 93-93 with 2:20 left (after Clark's 19th assist), but the Wings went on an 8-0 run to end the game and prevent Clark from becoming the inventor of the 20-point, 20-assist club.
After failing to record more than ten assists in each of his first 17 games, he has now managed it in seven of the last nine. It is also the fourth time in five games that he has recorded at least 13 assists (he recorded 13 in three consecutive games).

Even though Fever lost, it's a pretty notable moment for Clark to leave on a personal note.
Clark will play in the All-Star Game this weekend, along with fellow rookie and record holder Angel Reese, but since she was left off the Olympic roster in what remains a hotly debated issue, that will be her last action until mid-August.
