Caitlin Clark says Chennedy Carter doesn't need an apology

Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark on Friday resolved any lingering issues over Chennedy Carter's flagrant foul against her last week.

Carter, the Chicago Sky guard, checked Clark's shoulder from behind before the ball went in in what ended up being a 71-70 Fever victory in Indianapolis on Saturday. The league upgraded the common foul to flagrant foul 1 the day after the review.

On Friday, Clark was asked if he believed Carter owed him an apology after the foul was updated.

“No,” the star rookie said before the Fever's game against the Washington Mystics. “Basketball is competitive. I understand that. Sometimes your emotions get the better of you; it happened to me several times throughout my career. People are competitive.

“[Carter is] having a tremendous season. He has played great basketball; In my opinion, she probably ranks first for Sixth Player of the Year. She's been great off the bench for them. she was 25 [points] here last night and really helped them win the game.”

Clark has repeatedly said she tries to stay off social media, which has been inundated with topics about physical play in the WNBA and how other players have treated the No. 1 overall pick.

Clark, however, said that doesn't worry him.

“That's just not my focus. It's not what I think about on a day-to-day basis,” Clark said. “I think about my team. I think about ways I can improve. At the end of the day, it's just basketball. There's no hard feelings, there's none of that.

“It's a sport, it's competitive. It's not going to be enjoyable all the time; that's not basketball. And I think the people who play it at the highest level understand that.”

The Fever and Sky will meet again on June 16 in Indianapolis.
