Caitlin Clark reveals why she won't be participating in the three-point shooting contest

Caitlin Clark shocked WNBA fans earlier this week when she revealed she would not be participating in the three-point shooting contest before the All-Star Game on Friday night.

The Indiana Fever rookie is tied for third in 3-point field goals made with 71 with Dallas Wings star Arike Ogunbowale and Las Vegas Aces' Kelsey Plum.

New York Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu is second with 74 hits, and Minnesota Lynx star Kayla McBride is first with 76.

Participating in the competition will be McBride, Stefanie Dolson of the Washington Mystics, Allisha Gray of the Atlanta Dream, Jonquel Jones of the Liberty and Marina Mabrey of the Connecticut Sun.

Clark explained on Friday why he will not be participating in the contest.

“Honestly, I think it's just rest,” he told reporters, via the Indy Star. “I've been playing basketball for a year straight. It's not an easy thing to just show up and shoot right off the bat. It's something I've never done before. It's not something I've had a lot of time to practice for.”

Caitlin Clark's shooting prowess is the 'antidote' to criticism from fans of women's basketball, says Sue Bird

Clark has been playing basketball almost non-stop since the start of the Iowa Hawkeyes basketball season last year. She had a small break after the national championship, but the WNBA Draft came quickly and the start of the WNBA season followed shortly after.

Clark was left off the Olympic roster, but the WNBA will take an extended break for the Games.

“The most important thing for me is that I need a break and take time for myself and enjoy what I want to do,” Clark said.
