Caitlin Clark records her fifth consecutive double-double as the Fever hold off Mercury's comeback

Caitlin Clark's fiery WNBA rookie campaign just keeps getting better.

The league's No. 1 overall pick recorded a double-double for the fifth straight game, and for the sixth time in seven games, as the Indiana Fever earned a 95-86 victory over the Phoenix Mercury on Friday.

Clark scored 20 points and dished out 13 assists, matching a career high he has done four times, all in his last seven games.

It was also the third straight game in which Clark had 13 assists. Over his last seven games, he is averaging 18.3 points and 11.7 assists.

After starting the season 3-10, the Fever have won seven of their last 11 games, but this one was a near-collapse.

The Fever led by 31 points with 1:38 left in the third quarter before the Mercury went on a 31-4 run to cut that deficit to just four points with 3:12 left in the game.

However, Indiana survived with a 10-5 run to end the game, which included Clark's final two assists.

This comes just before Clark is set to get the most votes for next Saturday's All-Star Game — she was the only player to get more than 700,000 votes. Her Fever teammate Aaliyah Boston came in second, while A'ja Wilson came in third.

Perhaps Clark saw Angel Reese's (ongoing) streak of 14 consecutive double-doubles, which is a league-record all-time. Reese got the fifth-most votes, and she and Clark are the only two rookies to be voted All-Stars.
