WNBA rookie phenom Caitlin Clark was “very excited” to meet New York Yankees captain Aaron Judge during a visit to the Bronx on Saturday.

But she was still surprised by the sheer size of the man waiting for her.

Clark was a celebrity guest at the first game of a Yankees doubleheader against the Texas Rangers.

He wore a personalized Yankees jersey that included his name and number 22 and had access to the field, the Yankees clubhouse and the YES Network broadcast booth.

As Clark joined Yankees announcers Michael Kay and Paul O'Neill on the air in the top of the third inning, she revealed her experience of seeing Judge up close for the first time, admitting that he was the player she was most excited to meet.

“He's huge and also quite muscular. Not only is he tall, but he's quite firm,” Clark said.

Judge's 1.98-meter, 127-kilogram frame exceeded all expectations.

“He's a lot bigger than people think,” Clark said. “You know he's big, but when you get up close to him, you're like, 'My God, you could probably play football, or whatever sport you want.' He'd probably be really good at basketball, too. But yeah, he's a nice guy, down to earth… He's like twice as tall as me.”

However, at 1.80 metres tall and 70 kilos, Clark is not so small.

Clark, 22, was the first overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft by the Indiana Fever after a historic career at Iowa. As a Hawkeye, Clark broke the NCAA record for most points scored by a basketball player, male or female.

Clark did have time to visit Yankee Stadium after she was controversially left off the U.S. Olympic women's basketball team. She was, however, named a WNBA All-Star as a rookie and is a leading contender for the league's Rookie of the Year award.

Judge, 30, is in the midst of arguably the best season of his career. Judge leads all of baseball in home runs with 41, RBIs with 105 and OPS with 1.148, and could be on track to earn his second AL MVP.
