Alex Bowman cruised to Victory Lane on Sunday at the Chicago Street Course, earning his eighth career NASCAR Cup Series win and putting himself in good position to make the playoffs.

His road to the winner's circle was a bit of a bumpy one, as he faced a push into the wall from Bubba Wallace. Bowman spun Wallace on lap 25, costing the No. 23 driver track position and a potential chance to win the race. Wallace finished 13th.

Bowman later said he felt “embarrassed” by the spin and tried to reach out to Wallace after the race, according to NBC Sports.

“We've been racing very fair and very clean,” Bowman told FOX Sports. “I just made a mistake and ruined his day and I hate that.”

On Wallace's hit, Bowman said there should be no penalty for it.

“The restart was chaotic, wasn't it?” he said. “I made all the wrong decisions I could and I was fighting with the wiper switch, trying to get it to work, but I couldn't. I was concentrating on that, I missed the corner and I blew him out.”

“I locked all four wheels and slid into him. I made a mistake and completely ruined his day.”

Wallace has yet to respond to the controversy. He posted a farewell photo on his Instagram stories, but nothing more.
