Browns exchanges Kenny Pickett to Raiders for the fifth round of 2026

The Cleveland Browns do not carry four quarterbacks on their list of 53 men after all, after an impressive exchange on Monday night.

The Browns attended the veteran Kenny Pickett to the Las Vegas Raiders in exchange for a NFL selection of the fifth round of 2026.

The Raiders were desperate by a substitute field marshal of Geno Smith, whom they changed earlier this season with the Seattle Seahawks to gather it with its former chief coach, Pete Carroll. Aidan O'Connell fractured his wrist during the end of the Raiders, leaving him aside for 6-8 weeks.

O'Connell was expected to support Smith this season, but that long absence forced Las Vegas to look elsewhere. Carroll mentioned wanting someone with an initial experience, and the Raiders get it in the fourth year of Pitt.

Pickett has 25 openings under his NFL belt, going 15-10 in that period with the Pittsburgh Steelers. However, he could not solidify the initial work there, which finally led to an exchange to the Philadelphia Eagles before the 2024 season. It was there where Picktt supported Jalen Lastimas on the Eagles road to a Super Bowl Lix victory last season.

Pickett was changed from Philadelphia to Cleveland, since the Browns gathered their field marshal room with Deshaun Watson marginalized by a torn. Pickett was competing with veteran Joe Flacco, already called the opener of week 1 by chief coach Kevin Stefanski, as well as the rookies Dillon Gabriel (third round) and Shedeur Sanders (fifth round).

An lesion in the hamstrings suffered at the beginning of the training field, cost the time of Pickett, valuable time to compete for its place on the list. He did not play in any of the team's preseason games, although Stefanski mentioned after the end against the Los Angeles Rams that believed that Pickett would return in time for week 1.

With Flacco already locked as a holder, the question of who would choose Stefanski when the back of the Browns won additional attention, especially with the National Care Center in Sanders, the son of the Hall of Fame Deion Sanders. ESPN recently reported that the Browns were preparing to transport four quarterbacks in their list of 53 men, but trade changes all that situation.

Tyler “Snoop” Huntley, brought after Picktt and Gabriel dealt with the first injuries in the training fields, the Browns resigned from their preseason action.

Then, although Pickett believes to intervene as the backup field of the Raiders to begin the season, who will sit behind Flacco in the depth table of the Browns will continue to be a subject of speculation until Stefanski makes the call.

Sanders strengthened his case with an impressive preseason debut against the Carolina Panthers, completing 14 of 23 passes for 138 yards and two touchdowns, along with four hawths for 19 yards. The injury kept him out of the second game of the team, but returned in the second half of the end against the Rams, where he fought, ending only 3 of 6 for 14 yards while taking five catches.

Gabriel, after missing the first game, played in the last two preseason clashes. He completed 25 of 37 passes for 272 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Against the Rams, it was 12 of 19 for 129 yards and launched its lonely Touchdown of the preseason.

The Browns list, along with any other NFL team, must be completed before the ET deadline of the 4 PM on Tuesday.
