British cycling star Katie Archibald will miss the Paris Olympics after being injured in a freak garden accident

Team Great Britain He will be without two-time gold medalist Katie Archibald in Paris next month after the champion cyclist suffered a broken leg during a freak garden accident this week.

Archibald, 30, shared the news on social media Thursday morning.

“I tripped on a step in the garden and managed to somehow dislocate my ankle, break my tibia and fibula, and tear two ligaments off the bone. What the heck,” she wrote in a post on Instagram.

Archibald underwent surgery on Wednesday but confirmed that she will not do it defend your medal in the women's Madison.

“I apologize for what this means for the Olympic team, who have told me they will not involve me,” he continued. “I'm still processing that news, but I thought it would be best to confirm it publicly rather than leave it to rumors (trip hazard and all).”

British Cycling also confirmed the news on X.

“We share Katie's anguish over her injury and the cruel way in which she has been denied the opportunity to compete for the medals she so coveted in Paris,” the statement read in part.

“Our aim now is to provide Katie with the best possible support as she begins her recovery, and we know the entire cycling community will support her every step of the way.”

Archibald won gold in the 4,000-meter team pursuit in Rio and another pair of medals in Tokyo. He has also won five golds at world championships and 20 at European championships.
